I am a painter living on the Maine Coast, Blue Hill Peninsula, town of Sedgwick.  My paintings are responses to color and patterns of this vital place:  Blue Hill Peninsula, Penobscot Bay,  Deer Isle and Stonington, Merchants Row, Acadia, Schoodic,  Frenchman's Bay, the White Mountains and Ktahdin.  The interaction and progression of color structure my work, and often become metaphor.  I work from direct observation, sketches, watercolors, memory and the demands of the painting itself.  Many of these paintings have to do with the color - light, both inside and out, of a specific old, island house.  A narrative enters once the figure appears.  Nature calls our attention like a magnet; I try to make my paintings have a similar pull, not as description, but as visceral human experience.
